New Missile of DPRK

Sources said the Defense Ministry has confirmed the sighting of a new medium-range ballistic missile during the 75th anniversary parade of the North Korean People's Army on April 25.

The new missile is named Musudan by the U.S. government. It is an improved model of a former Soviet Union submarine-launched ballistic missile. Its range is about 5,000 kilometers, and it is capable of hitting U.S. military bases in Guam, according to sources.

The new missile is said to be more effective than what they already have like the Rodong, the Taepodong-1, and the Taepodong-2. But whether it can carry a nuclear warhead have not been clarified, according to government sources.

A senior official of the ministry said North Korea paraded a new missile probably to gain an advantage in negotiations with the United States.
